Classic Corn Dogs
Enjoy these homemade classic corn dogs, a perfect blend of crispy, golden-brown exterior with a juicy hot dog inside. This traditional fairground snack is a delight for all ages and is simple to make at home.
Ingredients
- 10 hot dogs
- 10 wooden skewers
- 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar granulated
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Pat the hot dogs dry and insert wooden skewers into each hot dog.
- In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk and egg until the batter is well-combined.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter until it's completely coated.
- Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the hot oil. Fry 2-3 at a time for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
