Homemade Gingerbread Men
Delightful gingerbread men cookies perfect for the holiday season. These cookies are spiced with ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and have a wonderfully soft yet crisp texture.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour sifted
- 1 tsp baking powder none
- 1/2 tsp baking soda none
- 2 tsp ground ginger none
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon none
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves none
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg none
- 1/2 tsp salt none
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar packed
- 1 egg large
- 2 tbsp molasses none
- 1 tsp vanilla extract none
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out gingerbread men shapes with a cookie cutter.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until cookies are firm and edges are slightly browned.
- Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
