Sugar Cookies with Icing

Classic sugar cookies with a simple icing, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour sifted
  • 3/4 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar for icing
  • 2-3 tablespoons Milk or water for icing
  • as needed Food coloring optional, for icing
Instructions
  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic and chill for at least one hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes.
  8. Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. Cool on wire racks.
  10. For icing, mix powdered sugar with milk or water until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
  11. Decorate the cooled cookies with icing.
