Sugar Cookies with Icing
Classic sugar cookies with a simple icing, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 3 cups All-purpose flour sifted
- 3/4 teaspoon Baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 tablespoon Milk
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 2 cups Powdered sugar for icing
- 2-3 tablespoons Milk or water for icing
- as needed Food coloring optional, for icing
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Wrap the dough in plastic and chill for at least one hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes.
- Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Cool on wire racks.
- For icing, mix powdered sugar with milk or water until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
- Decorate the cooled cookies with icing.
